Amber List
You will need to quarantine for 10 days unless you've been fully vaccinated in the UK*, as well as taking a pre-departure test before you arrive in the UK (a Return PCR or Antigen Fit to Fly test), and two PCR tests on return to the UK (Day 2 & Day 8). When you return to the UK, you can take a test on Day 5 (Test to Release) to leave quarantine early.
*If you were fully vaccinated in the UK at least 14 days ago, you do not need to quarantine, but still need to take a pre-departure test before arriving in the UK (a Return PCR or Antigen Fit to Fly test), and one PCR test on return to the UK (Day 2).

Welcome to Barcelona

Barcelona is an edgy, chaotic, beautiful city bursting with life, culture, and cuisine. Fiercely proud of its independence and Catalan status, Barcelona wears its history on its sleeve and is defined by counter-culture, revolution, and an outsider status that makes it one of the most exciting destinations in the world.

Barcelona was founded by the Romans around 15 BC and rose to prominence in the Medieval period as the capital of the county of Barcelona. It was the most important city of the Crown of Aragon and occupied an influential position over Mediterranean trade.

When Spain united under Ferdinand and Isabella in 1469, Barcelona remained a centre for Catalan nationalism, and has been defined by the traditions and cultural differences of the region ever since.

Barcelona: The Must See Sights

Barcelona has must-see attractions and stunning sights on every street and around every corner. Seriously, just look up as you’re walking and you’ll never be disappointed!

But if you’re writing up your to-do list, then the following are worthy of consideration…

The Picasso Museum, on Carrer de Montcada, is actually spread out across five separate historic palaces, making it a unique museum-going experience as well as the best collection of Picasso’s lesser-known works in the world.

Parc Guell’s fairytale design and dreamy, bizarre architecture makes it the perfect place to wander and relax, as well as to discover the extraordinary work of architect and artist Antoni Gaudi.

Gaudi fans should, of course, also check out The Sagrada Familia — Gaudi’s eye-catching, unfinished cathedral. It’s a stunning, mystifying sight and an icon of the city.

And no football-lovers trip to Barcelona would be complete without a visit to Camp Nou, the cathedral to football and home of one of the world’s most famous, most exciting, and most successful sports teams.

Can You Travel To Spain?

Flights to Spain have resumed, and borders are open to all travellers from the UK.

From 2 July 2021, the Spanish government requires all arrivals to Spain from the UK (excluding children under the age of 12 years old) to present on entry one of the following:

  • documentation issued within 48 hours prior to arrival in Spain, certifying that you have undertaken a COVID-19 test, e.g. PCR, TMA, LAMP or NEAR, and tested negative.
  • proof of being fully vaccinated at least 14 days prior to arrival in Spain (date(s) of vaccination must be specified), with a vaccine authorised by the European Medicines Agency or by the World Health Organisation (see the relevant FAQ for further information)

All arrivals are obliged to complete and sign an online Health Control Form no more than 48 hours prior to travel declaring any known history of exposure to COVID-19 and giving contact details.

On arrival into Spanish ports and airports, you may be subject to the following requirements at the point of entry:

  • Present the QR code (hardcopy or digital) issued on completion of the online Health Control Form prior to travel.
  • Undergo a temperature check
  • Undergo a visual health assessment
  • Present evidence either of a negative test taken within 48 hours prior to arrival or proof of being fully vaccinated

If you are resident in Spain, you should present proof of residence such as the ‘TIE’ (la tarjeta de identidad de extranjero) during border control.

In some parts of Spain, regardless of your country of origin, tourist accommodation providers may require you to present evidence either of a negative test, of being fully vaccinated or of having had and recovered from COVID-19 in the last 6 months. This currently applies in the Canary Islands, see the Canary Island tourist board website for details.

For travel to the Balearic Islands (Majorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera) or the Canary Islands (Lanzarote, Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria), please see those relevant destination pages.

Local Measures
Regional measures have replaced national lockdown restrictions, allowing some regions to ease restrictions.

Many municipal and regional authorities may introduce other measures such as:

  • an overnight curfew (specific curfew times vary between regions)
  • social gatherings may be limited (e.g. to a maximum of 6 people outdoors and a maximum of 4 people inside restaurants and bars)
  • people from different households may not be permitted to meet indoors in private homes (unless they have caring responsibilities for a dependent)
  • capacity restrictions at beaches or other public areas such as the delineation of plots and the use of booking systems. You should refer to local authorities for information on the measures in place
  • if visitors test positive or develop symptoms during their stay in Spain, they may be moved to specific designated accommodation to prevent further spread

These measures may vary between regions. You should refer to local and regional authorities for advice.

Travelling To Spain FAQs

Advice and answers from the Corona Test Centre Team

What do the three colours of the UK’s ‘Traffic Light System’ for travel mean?

  • Red: You must pay for a 10-day stay in a managed quarantine hotel, as well as taking a pre-departure test (a Fit to Fly test) and two PCR tests upon return to the UK (Day 2 & Day 8).
  • Amber: You will need to quarantine for 10 days, as well as taking a pre-departure test (a Fit to Fly test), and two PCR tests on return to the UK (Day 2 & Day 8). When you return to the UK,  you can take a test on Day 5 (Test to Release) to leave quarantine early.
  • Green: You will not need to quarantine on return, but you must take a pre-departure test (a Fit to Fly test), and a PCR test on return to the UK on Day 2.

How will the government decide which countries go on the green, amber or red lists?

Countries are assigned to the three lists, based on a range of Covid-19 health metrics, which include figures on population vaccination, infection rates and prevalence of variants. The different traffic light colours indicate the risk in each destination and the associated tests and quarantine periods required. Lists are reassessed every three weeks, to account for changes in each country’s COVID-19 situation.

Will I need a PCR Fit to Fly Certificate to travel to

Spain

?

The PCR test is the gold standard for testing coronavirus and so is recommended for travel to all countries. For Spain, only PCR Fit to Fly Certificates are accepted. If you have been vaccinated, Spain will accept this as proof.

Will I need an Antigen Fit to Fly Certificate to travel to

Spain

?

Spain accepts vaccination as an entry requirement and so you may not need to provide a PCR or Antigen Fit to Fly Certificate. However, to ensure that you and the people you meet when travelling are safe, we always recommend taking a PCR or Antigen test before travel.

Will I need a Day 2 test or Day 2 and 8 when I return to the UK?

Spainis currently on the amber list, this means that you will need a Day 2 PCR test and a Day 8 PCR test. You will need to buy this before you travel to the UK and use the reference code on your passenger location form. You will need to quarantine on arrival for 10 days. If you would like the opportunity to leave quarantine early, you can also book a Test to Release test. Please note that the travel restrictions are subject to change at very short notice.

I’m vaccinated, what tests do I need?

Spain is currently on the amber list, this means that you will need a Day 2 PCR test and a Day 8 PCR test. However, because you have both vaccinations, you can return to the UK and only take a Day 2 PCR test. You will need to buy this before you travel to the UK and use the reference code on your passenger location form. You will not need to quarantine on arrival for 10 days (unless you test positive). Please note that the travel restrictions are subject to change at very short notice.

Can I enter

Spain

with a double vaccination certificate?

Spain accepts vaccination as an entry requirement and so you may not need to provide a PCR Fit to Fly Certificate

What happens if I have visited another country before flying back to the UK from

Spain

?

The government advice for passengers travelling from Spain is that if you have visited another country in the 10 days before you arrive in the UK that is a higher risk than Spain, you must follow the travel guidance for the highest risk country you visited.

What else will I need to return to the UK?

For all countries, including Spain, you will need to take an Antigen Fit to Fly test before departing for the UK. This can be bought at Corona Test Centre’s to take with you on your travels.
