Can You Travel To Ecuador?

Upon arrival, all passengers will be required to sign a health declaration form with their itinerary and local contact details. You must also present a negative Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) qualitative test for COVID-19, or a negative antigen rapid test, taken up to 72 hours prior to your arrival in the country. This is a mandatory requirement, which airlines are responsible for enforcing in order to allow passengers to board.
Passengers in transit are not subject to the submission of the above COVID-19 test or vaccination card.

Travellers who have had their full COVID-19 vaccination (i.e. both doses for those vaccinations which consist of two doses), received at least 14 days prior the flight date, can present their vaccination card, or its equivalent, instead of the above negative RT-PCR or rapid test result. However, the use of “Immunity Certificates or Vaccination Certificates/Cards” from foreign passengers will be subject to constant review. Please see the relevant FAQ for further details.

If, on arrival, a passenger presents COVID-19 related symptoms, they will be evaluated by a health care worker, prior to their entry to the immigration area, and if necessary will be taken to the nearest health centre for a full evaluation.

Passengers who test positive in the antigen test taken at the airport will need to self-isolate for 10 days, from the date of the test. Self-isolation for non-residents can be carried out in any hotel, at their own expense. The full address of where the passenger will self-isolate should be included in the Health Status Declaration Form.

Local residents and people qualified as “priority attention groups” such as people over 65 years old, children and pregnant women, will be allowed to self-isolate at their homes.

If you need to find emergency accommodation to go through the mandatory self-isolation protocol, you can access options on the Ministry of Health website.

A nationwide tracing app (ASI Ecuador) is available to alert people of contact with a confirmed COVID-19 case during the last 15 days.

Local Measures
Each municipal government is responsible for determining its own specific restrictions.

The general nationwide biosecurity measures include:

  • mandatory use of face masks in public spaces.
  • public gatherings and mass events are prohibited
  • the reopening of beaches will continue to be monitored via the 'Distancia' app.
  • ports remain closed for travel/tourism activities
  • inter-provincial buses can operate at 75% capacity

Galapagos Islands
From 1 July, tourist activities are allowed in the Galapagos Islands. Commercial flights connecting the Islands resumed on 3 August. The local authorities have created a ‘safe travel corridor’ for travel to the Galapagos Islands.

Foreigners wishing to enter the Galapagos islands must either present a negative Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test for COVID-19, taken 72 hours prior to the date of arrival or present a COVID-19 vaccination card, or its equivalent, with the final dose administered at least 14 days prior to travel.

Tourists must also present evidence of a return flight, as well as the Galapagos Transit Control Card to be filled out online at least 25 hours before the flight. Travel health insurance is mandatory for foreign tourists.

Travelling To Ecuador FAQs

Advice and answers from the Corona Test Centre Team

What do the three colours of the UK’s ‘Traffic Light System’ for travel mean?

  • Red: You must pay for a 10-day stay in a managed quarantine hotel, as well as taking a pre-departure test (a Fit to Fly test) and two PCR tests upon return to the UK (Day 2 & Day 8).
  • Amber: You will need to quarantine for 10 days, as well as taking a pre-departure test (a Fit to Fly test), and two PCR tests on return to the UK (Day 2 & Day 8). When you return to the UK,  you can take a test on Day 5 (Test to Release) to leave quarantine early.
  • Green: You will not need to quarantine on return, but you must take a pre-departure test (a Fit to Fly test), and a PCR test on return to the UK on Day 2.

How will the government decide which countries go on the green, amber or red lists?

Countries are assigned to the three lists, based on a range of Covid-19 health metrics, which include figures on population vaccination, infection rates and prevalence of variants. The different traffic light colours indicate the risk in each destination and the associated tests and quarantine periods required. Lists are reassessed every three weeks, to account for changes in each country’s COVID-19 situation.

Will I need a PCR Fit to Fly Certificate to travel to

Ecuador

?

The PCR test is the gold standard for testing coronavirus and so is recommended for travel to all countries. For Ecuador, PCR Fit to Fly Certificates are accepted, alternatively you can travel with an Antigen Fit to Fly Certificate, or if you have been vaccinated, Ecuador will accept this as proof.

Will I need an Antigen Fit to Fly Certificate to travel to

Ecuador

?

Ecuador accepts vaccination as an entry requirement and so you may not need to provide a PCR or Antigen Fit to Fly Certificate. However, to ensure that you and the people you meet when travelling are safe, we always recommend taking a PCR or Antigen test before travel.

Will I need a Day 2 test or Day 2 and 8 when I return to the UK?

Ecuadoris currently on the red list, this means that you will need a Day 2 PCR test and a Day 8 PCR test. You will need to buy this before you travel to the UK and use the reference code on your passenger location form. You can book these tests online, but you will also have to arrange accommodation at a government chosen hotel on your arrival into the UK. Please note that the travel restrictions are subject to change at very short notice.

I’m vaccinated, what tests do I need?

Ecuador is currently on the red list. Even though you are vaccinated, you will still need a Day 2 PCR test and a Day 8 PCR test. You will need to buy this before you travel to the UK and use the reference code on your passenger location form. You can book these tests online, but you will also have to arrange accommodation at a government chosen hotel on your arrival into the UK. Please note that the travel restrictions are subject to change at very short notice.

Can I enter

Ecuador

with a double vaccination certificate?

Ecuador accepts vaccination as an entry requirement and so you may not need to provide a PCR or Antigen Fit to Fly Certificate

What happens if I have visited another country before flying back to the UK from

Ecuador

?

The government advice for passengers travelling from Ecuador is that if you have visited another country in the 10 days before you arrive in the UK that is a higher risk than Ecuador, you must follow the travel guidance for the highest risk country you visited.

What else will I need to return to the UK?

For all countries, including Ecuador, you will need to take an Antigen Fit to Fly test before departing for the UK. This can be bought at Corona Test Centre’s to take with you on your travels.
