Can You Travel To UAE?

Residents, tourists and visitors travelling from or through the UK and arriving in Dubai and Abu Dhabi must have a negative COVID-19 PCR test which was taken no more than 72 hours before departure and present the certificate at check in. Travellers arriving in Abu Dhabi will also be required to undertake a COVID-19 PCR test on arrival. Travellers arriving in Dubai may be required to undertake a further COVID-19 PCR test on arrival and will have to isolate pending the result of the COVID-19 PCR test.

If you test positive for COVID-19 on arrival, depending on your symptoms and your accommodation plans, you may be required to self-isolate in a government facility, a hospital, your hotel or privately arranged accommodation for at least 10 days.

In all circumstances, the test must be a COVID-19 PCR swab test. Other test results including antibody tests are not accepted.
Further information about COVID-19 testing for travellers is available on the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority website. Children under the age of 12 and those with severe and moderate disabilities will be exempted from the test requirement. Those entering the country may also be asked to take a further COVID-19 PCR test on arrival and to complete a period of self-isolation or quarantine.

Entry to Abu Dhabi
There is a requirement for further testing if visitors and residents remain in Abu Dhabi for 3 days or longer. The rules for entering and remaining in Abu Dhabi change regularly and you should check the current requirement from the Abu Dhabi Media Office Website and on the Emirates News Agency website.

All arrivals in Abu Dhabi must isolate for up to 12 days on arrival, depending on their vaccination status, although arrivals from certain countries as listed on the Visit Abu Dhabi website will not be required to isolate. The UK was removed from this list on 13 June 2021. This means that all arrivals in Abu Dhabi from the UK will be required to wear a medically approved wristband for the duration of their quarantine. The wristband will be provided at Abu Dhabi airport after clearing immigration. Arrivals under the age of 18, over the age of 60, diplomats or those suffering from a chronic disease will be exempt from having to wear the wristband.
Travellers arriving in Abu Dhabi will also be required to undertake a COVID-19 PCR test on arrival, complete a period of self-isolation or quarantine and, depending on the length of their stay and vaccination status, have up to two further COVID-19 PCR tests. More information about quarantine and testing requirements for travellers to Abu Dhabi is available on the UAE Government Portal and Abu Dhabi Media Office website. Further information is also available on the Etihad Airlines website including a guide for arrivals in Abu Dhabi.

Dubai residents returning to or leaving Dubai
Further information about what returning residents need to do before they travel and what will happen on arrival in Dubai is available on the Government of Dubai website including information about testing on arrival and quarantine.

Dubai residents must apply for a permit to return on the Dubai Government General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs website. Further information about how to book a flight for returning residents is available on the Emirates Airline website.

On their return to Dubai, returning residents will have to register their details on the COVID-19 DXB App.

Visitors to Dubai
Further information about what visitors need to do before they travel and what will happen on arrival in Dubai is available on the Government of Dubai website including information about testing before departure, on arrival and quarantine. Further information for visitors to Dubai is available on the Emirates Airline website.

Visitors to Dubai will also have to register their details on the COVID-19 DXB App.

Before visitors fly to Dubai, they will also be required to complete a Health Declaration Form and a Quarantine Form. Both forms need to be printed, completed and handed over to Dubai Health Authority staff on arrival. Visitors to Dubai will also have to register their details on the COVID-19 DXB App.

Visitors must have international health insurance before travelling.

All visitors to Dubai must adhere to all public health measures issued by the Dubai authorities including any requirements to quarantine.

Local Measures

  • Most shops, restaurants, tourist attractions and religious establishments are open but there are restrictions and requirements in place to help contain the disease.
  • Social distancing and the wearing of face masks is mandatory when away from your home. This also applies to visitors staying in hotels when they are not in their room.

The introduction of the 'Green Pass' on the 'ALHOSN App' for access to public places in Abu Dhabi has been temporarily suspended. Further information is available on the Abu Dhabi Government Media Office website.

Travelling To UAE FAQs

Advice and answers from the Corona Test Centre Team

What do the three colours of the UK’s ‘Traffic Light System’ for travel mean?

  • Red: You must pay for a 10-day stay in a managed quarantine hotel, as well as taking a pre-departure test (a Fit to Fly test) and two PCR tests upon return to the UK (Day 2 & Day 8).
  • Amber: You will need to quarantine for 10 days, as well as taking a pre-departure test (a Fit to Fly test), and two PCR tests on return to the UK (Day 2 & Day 8). When you return to the UK,  you can take a test on Day 5 (Test to Release) to leave quarantine early.
  • Green: You will not need to quarantine on return, but you must take a pre-departure test (a Fit to Fly test), and a PCR test on return to the UK on Day 2.

How will the government decide which countries go on the green, amber or red lists?

Countries are assigned to the three lists, based on a range of Covid-19 health metrics, which include figures on population vaccination, infection rates and prevalence of variants. The different traffic light colours indicate the risk in each destination and the associated tests and quarantine periods required. Lists are reassessed every three weeks, to account for changes in each country’s COVID-19 situation.

Will I need a PCR Fit to Fly Certificate to travel to

UAE

?

The PCR test is the gold standard for testing coronavirus and so is recommended for travel to all countries. For UAE, only PCR Fit to Fly Certificates are accepted.

Will I need an Antigen Fit to Fly Certificate to travel to

UAE

?

The PCR test is the gold standard for testing coronavirus and so is recommended for travel to all countries. For UAE, only PCR Fit to Fly Certificates are accepted. You will not be able to use an Antigen Fit to Fly Certificate to enter UAE but you will be able to use one to return to the UK.

Will I need a Day 2 test or Day 2 and 8 when I return to the UK?

UAEis currently on the red list, this means that you will need a Day 2 PCR test and a Day 8 PCR test. You will need to buy this before you travel to the UK and use the reference code on your passenger location form. You can book these tests online, but you will also have to arrange accommodation at a government chosen hotel on your arrival into the UK. Please note that the travel restrictions are subject to change at very short notice.

I’m vaccinated, what tests do I need?

UAE is currently on the red list. Even though you are vaccinated, you will still need a Day 2 PCR test and a Day 8 PCR test. You will need to buy this before you travel to the UK and use the reference code on your passenger location form. You can book these tests online, but you will also have to arrange accommodation at a government chosen hotel on your arrival into the UK. Please note that the travel restrictions are subject to change at very short notice.

Can I enter

UAE

with a double vaccination certificate?

UAE does not accept vaccination as an entry requirement and so you will need to provide a PCR Fit to Fly Certificate

What happens if I have visited another country before flying back to the UK from

UAE

?

The government advice for passengers travelling from UAE is that if you have visited another country in the 10 days before you arrive in the UK that is a higher risk than UAE, you must follow the travel guidance for the highest risk country you visited.

What else will I need to return to the UK?

For all countries, including UAE, you will need to take an Antigen Fit to Fly test before departing for the UK. This can be bought at Corona Test Centre’s to take with you on your travels.
