Travelling To Poland FAQs

Advice and answers from the Corona Test Centre Team

What do the three colours of the UK’s ‘Traffic Light System’ for travel mean?

  • Red: You must pay for a 10-day stay in a managed quarantine hotel, as well as taking a pre-departure test (a Fit to Fly test) and two PCR tests upon return to the UK (Day 2 & Day 8).
  • Amber: You will need to quarantine for 10 days, as well as taking a pre-departure test (a Fit to Fly test), and two PCR tests on return to the UK (Day 2 & Day 8). When you return to the UK,  you can take a test on Day 5 (Test to Release) to leave quarantine early.
  • Green: You will not need to quarantine on return, but you must take a pre-departure test (a Fit to Fly test), and a PCR test on return to the UK on Day 2.

How will the government decide which countries go on the green, amber or red lists?

Countries are assigned to the three lists, based on a range of Covid-19 health metrics, which include figures on population vaccination, infection rates and prevalence of variants. The different traffic light colours indicate the risk in each destination and the associated tests and quarantine periods required. Lists are reassessed every three weeks, to account for changes in each country’s COVID-19 situation.

What must I do when returning to the UK from Poland?

Poland is on the amber travel list.

Before you enter the UK you must:

  • fill in your passenger locator form up to 48 hours before you enter the UK
  • take a COVID-19 test up to 3 days before departure. You will need to show a negative test result when you arrive in the UK.
  • book and pay 2 coronavirus (COVID-19) tests for when you quarantine in the UK. You must book these before you travel.

On arrival in England you must:

  • quarantine at home or in the place you are staying for 10 days
  • take a COVID-19 test on or before day 2 and on or after day 8

• You may be able to end your quarantine early by booking a third coronavirus test through Test to Release.

Children aged four and under do not need to take a test on day 2 or day 8.

What health and safety tips should I keep in mind during travel to Poland?

It is important to check with your travel agent or travel company ahead of planned travel if physical distancing, face coverings and additional hygiene precautionary measures have been implemented.

  • Expect delays and allow extra time for travel.
  • Be prepared to queue or take different routes in and around stations and airports to comply with physical distancing measures.
  • Make sure you plan ahead for your trip and consider packing enough food and drink in case shops and restaurants at transport hubs are not operating.
  • Try to maintain physical distancing (1-2 meters) from others as much as possible
  • Wash your hands frequently for at least 20 seconds, particularly before eating and drinking, after being in public areas, using public transport and using the toilet.
  • Carry an alcohol based hand sanitiser, containing at least 60% alcohol, for use when soap and water is not immediately available. Remember this should be 100mls or less to comply with airport liquid/gel restrictions.
  • Wearing a face covering may be mandatory in some countries when in public. If it is not, consider wearing a face covering when physical distancing isn't possible in public areas or enclosed spaces.

How can I access medical help while abroad in Poland?

  • The Polish National Health Fund 24 hour info line (dial 800 190 590, or dial 989, and then press 6 after calling either number) provides English language advice on what steps to take if you are in Poland and suspect you might have coronavirus, and information on vaccinations. A list of hospitals with coronavirus facilities can be found on the Polish government website.
  • For contact details for local doctors, consult the list of healthcare providers provided by the government:
  • If you need emergency medical assistance during your trip, dial 112 and ask for an ambulance. If you are referred to a medical facility for treatment you should contact your insurance/medical assistance company immediately.
  • You should get a free UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) or European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) before leaving the UK. If you already have an EHIC it will still be valid as long as it remains in date.
