PCR requirements for Tenerife
Looking to catch some winter sun in Tenerife? We can’t blame you! Here’s everything you need to know about COVID-19 regulations and PCR test requirements.
What are the current rules and regulations for travel from the UK to Tenerife?
A quick disclaimer: as the COVID-19 situation evolves, international travel rules are liable to change. Please check with The Foreign Office before booking your trip.
At the time of writing, Tenerife and the rest of the Canary Islands are considered a moderate risk destination for COVID-19. This means travel to Tenerife from the UK is permitted, for either business or leisure.
Which COVID test do I need to get for Tenerife?
Anyone travelling to Tenerife from the UK, regardless of age or residency status, needs a negative COVID-19 PCR test result before they travel. Please note: NHS PCR tests are not valid for international travel. You will need to book a PCR test with a private testing centre instead.
The test should be taken no more than 72 hours before your arrival in Tenerife. And if you are checking into regulated tourist accommodation in Tenerife, the test should be taken no more than 72 hours before your check-in time.
You must carry the original test certificate with you when you travel. Both digital and paper formats are accepted.
The document should be written in Spanish or English. And it should contain the following information:
- Your full name
- Passport or ID card number
- Test date
- Name and contact details of the testing centre you attended
- Testing method
- Your test results
What else do I need to do when travelling to Tenerife?
Complete a Health Control Form
All travellers must also complete a mandatory Health Control Form 48 hours before they travel.
You will need to provide your contact information, details of any known exposure to COVID-19 and confirmation that you have had a COVID-19 test and can provide a negative test result certificate.
Once you have completed this form, you will be issued a personal QR code. You’ll need to show either a paper or digital version of this QR code at your point of entry into Spain.
Download and activate the Radar COVID notification app
Those staying in regulated tourist accommodation also need to download and activate Spain’s version of the Test and Trace app: the Radar COVID notification app.
The app should be activated throughout your stay in Tenerife and for 15 days after you return home.
Any traveller who doesn’t comply risks being refused entry to their accommodation.
What are the current COVID-19 rules in Tenerife?
Current COVID-19 rules in Tenerife include the following:
