Chat With UsAs overseas travel can take place from 17 May, the government has devised a traffic light system which classifies international travel destinations based on Covid-19 risks. Countries may be red, amber, or green. Each colour corresponds to specific rules when returning to the UK.
What do the three colours of the UK’s ‘Traffic Light System’ for travel mean?
How will the government decide which countries go on the green, amber or red lists?
Countries are assigned to the three lists, based on a range of Covid-19 health metrics, which include figures on population vaccination, infection rates and prevalence of variants. The different traffic light colours indicate the risk in each destination and the associated tests and quarantine periods required. Lists are reassessed every three weeks, to account for changes in each country’s COVID-19 situation.
Most countries require a PCR Fit to Fly test pre-departure, however a very small number of countries will accept an Antigen Fit to Fly pre-departure test. We have designed two different Green List travel packs to cater to these differing requirements. Please check your destination to determine if a PCR or Antigen outbound Fit to Fly test is accepted here.
If you’re arriving in the UK from a Green listed country you do not need to undergo a period of quarantine, but are still required by law to take a PCR test 2 days after your arrival. The Day 8 PCR quarantine test is only applicable for arrivals from amber listed countries.
We regret that due to government guidelines we are unable to issue refunds for tests purchased online. Day 2 and 8 tests in particular contain booking reference numbers for passenger locator forms and those are non-retractable and form part of the service we provide. Other test types, whilst unable to be refunded may be used at a later date by contacting support and providing details of your journey when you are ready to use them.
A throat and nose swab sample is taken using the kit provided. We have clear instructions on how to do this that come with your test bundle, with video tutorials available from the links in the instruction leaflet.
We use a range of antigen tests certified for home use. Our tests are predominantly swab based but we also sell saliva based antigen tests when available. All home antigen tests are self administered using the instructions provided with the test.
For postal returned samples you will get your result within 24 hours of our lab receiving your sample (please be sure to make the Priority Post Box cut-off time otherwise your sample is sent the following day by Royal Mail). We also offer in-clinic testing with faster results (same day services available). All test samples are analysed 7 days a week. We recommend you check your specific destination requirements here.
